2 charity houses and the village alley at Lo Co, An Truong village, Tra Vinh province funded by the donation from teachers and staff of Faculty of Vietnamese studies have been completed and handed over to the families and local people during a ceremony held on Jan 1, 2009, with the attendance of local government representatives, Faculty of Vietnamese studies teachers and local people. Through the campaign, teachers and staff of Faculty of Vietnamese studies donated a total amount of 29.5 million VND. 20 million VND was used to construct 2 houses for marginalized families in the village, while the rest was contributed to partly fund the construction of a 1053 - meter long village alley. Before an alley was constructed, the area was mostly inaccessible during the rainy season. The completion of a village alley helped tremendously in improving the situation and making the village easily accessible even after heavy rains. Raising money to help build houses for the poor and public infrastructure for remote areas has been consistently continued among teachers and staff of Faculty of Vietnamese studies for many years. Money raised from the Faculty – wide donation campaigns has helped to change lives, transform poor areas, create hopes and made lasting positive impacts on the lives of hundreds of people. Building on our previous success, donation for charity purposes will be continued as a meaningful activity in the Faculty of Vietnamese studies. |
